MSNHA launches field-trip grant program for local schools

Getting out and exploring the MSNHA is always a fun adventure! We want to help provide your students with opportunities to experience the rich history and culture of our region first-hand. If you’re planning a fieldtrip to Bankhead National Forest to learn about Alabama’s biodiversity, Muscle Shoals Sound Studio to learn about our music heritage, Oakville Indian Mounds Museum and Education Center to learn about Native American culture or any other significant site within MSNHA’s six counties, consider applying for one of our fieldtrip grants. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Maximum field-trip grant award is $200
  • Any elementary or secondary school in Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone & Morgan is eligible
  • Field trips must be of educational purpose & take place within MSNHA’s six counties
  • Within 10 days of the field trip’s completion, successful grantees must submit pictures & descriptions of the trip along with a narrative highlighting how the MSNHA grant helped make the trip possible. This content is required for documentation & also may be included in publications & social media.
  • Schools are limited to one grant award per academic year.
  • Grant applications must be submitted at least 30 days ahead of date of field trip.
  • Grant applications will be reviewed by MSNHA staff. Applicants will be notified of grant awards within 10 days of application. All correspondence is via email.

If your request meets all of the above requirements & you’re ready to apply, go here to fill out the online form. All fields are required. When you’re done, click the “submit” button at the bottom of the form & a confirmation message will pop up. Later, you’ll receive an email from us (msnha@una.edu) confirming that we received your application. Then, within 10 days of receiving your application, we’ll email you with the status of your request. Successful applicants must then submit an IRS W-9 form. Got questions? Having trouble with the application or confirmation? Email us at msnha@una.edu.
